We've presented at DIMH several times, but when the email for 2024 arrived, we saw the topic list and immediately thought we were unqualified to contribute this year. This talk digs into Imposter Syndrome, shares some personal experiences, and provides a loose framework designed to help you conquer it.

Co-designing Personalized Mental Health Tech with Youth

Kathleen Guan (see bio)

This presentation explores the co-design of personalized mental health technology with youth. Recognizing youth as digital natives, our work leverages their comfort with technology to enhance mental health support through innovative personalization strategies. Specifically, advancements in artificial intelligence and Large Language Models (AI/LLMs) can facilitate context-aware, dynamic, and individually tailored solutions.

The methodology involves participatory engagement with youth, through collaborations with community health organizations and schools. Interactive workshops educate youth about AI and LLMs, enabling them to validate and co-design data-driven scenarios and personas derived from comprehensive mental health datasets. This approach ensures the tech interventions can be relevant, engaging, and effective for addressing the unique intersectional factors influencing each individual's mental health. Challenges such as safeguarding privacy, mitigating algorithmic bias, and ensuring equity are addressed through continuous community involvement.

A recent book chapter, published by Palgrave, entitled "Encyclopaedia of Creative Practice”. The work follows on from Kolk’s seminal work, exploring how trauma resides in the body, and primitive part of the brain. No smiley feedback forms here, but real conversations with data direct from participants reflecting on their experience as they progress through a music mentoring programme. Live analysis of qualitative data that can be analysed to show how basic psychological needs of autonomy competence and relatedness are present (or not) in those reflections. Paving the way for genuine live 360 outcomes analysis and automatic reporting of the organisation's work. To put the value of that automation into perspective, the UK charity sector alone spends 18.5 million hours a year in reporting. Find out more: https://linktr.ee/NoiseSolutionUK
