The Ethics of Global Digital Mental Health
I pledge the vast majority of my time to advancing Ethics in Global Digital Mental Health
On 5 June 2024, I gave an invited Keynote at the The University of the Western Cape (UWC) & Wysa Mental Health Colloquium held in Cape Town, South Africa. I spoke on the topics of ethics, AI, mental health, and the importance of understanding culture, context and communities. Click below to see my presentation slides:
I pledge to take my role very seriously as Co-Chair of the IEEE IC Program on Ethical Assurance of Data-Driven Technologies for Mental Healthcare
We held a Forum on Regulating AI in Mental Health in London, UK, in March 2024.
We can now announce that we will be taking this Forum globally
On 2 October 2024, we will hold a Forum in Singapore following the same focus on Regulating AI in Mental Health with a strong emphasis on Asia and cultural, context, and community perspectives while also making connections to global contexts too.
In February 2025 (TBC) the next Forum is currently pencilled in to be held in Cape Town, South Africa following the same format and focus as previous Forums.
I am writing a book with a wonderful colleague of mine (Dr Gerry Craigen) called The Ethics of Global Digital Mental Health. We welcome anyone’s thoughts on what content should be included.
Resources are available from DIMH2022: Digital Innovation in Mental Health as the conference theme was Ethics.
ETHICS IN ACTION Project: Promoting greater ethical transparency, reflection, and critique in the academic journal publishing process. We are inviting all Editors of journals to be a part of our simple yet effective change, which – if widely adopted – could be the start of a more profound paradigm shift in how academic discourse is conducted. There is a current lack of emphasis given to ethical discoveries within academic journal articles. We have a solution: we want to get as many journals as possible to adjust their abstract guidelines to require authors to include a heading/statement ‘Ethical Insights’. This sentence should clearly articulate any ethical considerations, discoveries or achievements made during the study. More information coming soon.
