Poets & Technologists: Partners in Emotional Intelligence
18 july / 10:05 - 10:55 am uk time
Keynote Speaker: Lauren Ducrey
The emergence of natural language models like chatGPT and Bard are inviting us to reclaim our emotions and our imagination as the core of what makes us human. Since the Renaissance we've made logical, systematic thinking the prerogative of human intelligence, however today these models challenge that paradigm with analytical capabilities that far outperform ours. Surprisingly, as we see aspects of our rational intelligence bested by AI, we're starting to reclaim our emotional sensitivity as what makes us humans.
Who are the original researchers and scientists of emotional sensitivity? Poets, writers and artists. And who are the original experts in natural language? Poets and writers. This tech revolution gives us an unexpected opportunity to reinstate wordsmiths as the language experts and as stewards of what it means to live a fully human life.
The Keynote Speaker will share some examples of how conversational Large Language Models (LLMs) can help us become better, more empathetic communicators, particularly in the mental health space. She will then close with a short poem.
