From Words to Wellness: Poetry as an Antidote to Loneliness
18 july / 12:05 - 12:55 pM uk time
Live Session Summary
Everyone understands poetry. Not just the academics and the bookworms. Because research shows that the parts of our brain that react to music are the same that react to poetry. It's that instinctive. In this talk, Lauren Ducrey will share her journey from a skeptical view of poetry, shaped by academic rigors, to discovering its therapeutic essence. Based on research in psychology (poetry therapy is a thing!) Lauren will reframe poetry as an untapped, highly accessible resource for play, mindfulness, and deep human connection. In light of the current epidemic of loneliness, she will lead the audience through a poetic reading to experience firsthand how poetry can wake us up to a new sense of wonder and belonging.
